Welcome to Alsager
The Alsager Community Choir takes place every week on Monday evenings, 7.30-9.30pm, and Tuesday afternoons, 1.30-3.30pm, at Wesley Place Church Hall. Come along and sing popular songs from contemporary pop to past classics and everything in between, with simple harmonies. There are no auditions and everyone is welcome regardless of ability or age. Joining a choir is an excellent way to meet new people in a relaxed, friendly environment.
The Alsager Community Choir was formed in May 2012 and was created to allow people of all singing abilities to get together, make new friends and sing their favourite songs. Music Director Matthew Thomason (www.matthewthomasonmusic.co.uk) initially came up with the idea whilst he was teaching in China, where he had to use the choir singing as a way to relax students who were under enormous pressure at school. The benefits of singing for your body and mind are great but also being part of a choir is a fantastic way of winding down, meeting new people and sharing new experiences.
The choir now boasts around 70 members and, since performing its first concert in December 2012, has gone on to perform concerts for the Alzheimer's Society, Alsager Rotary Club, Shine Learning Disability Programme and the Alsager Music & Arts Society to name a few.
In 2015 The Alsager Community Choir was asked to perform with the Brit award-winning harmony trio Blake at the Crewe Lyceum Theatre and the Buxton Arts Centre, with both shows being a huge success. The choir has since gone on to perform with Blake again in 2016 and 2017. During 2016-2017 the choir was under the excellent tutelage of Kate Cubley an experienced choir leader and vocal coach.
Following Kates departure in early 2018 the choir were delighted to welcome Daniel Keen as their Choral Leader. Daniel has a wealth of experience as Music Director for Biddulph Male Voice Choir and the Bunbury Singers as well as being the Junior Vocal Coach at the Regent Theatre. Daniel is also the Director of Sandbach Music Ltd, a music tuition business and music shop based in Sandbach, Cheshire.
